With fans worldwide making amends with the aftermath of big cinema and TV send-offs, it was a matter of time (has it been 27 years already?) until New Line Cinema and the Muschietti team would send out their invitation to what may be the most wicked reunion/faceoff yet. After setting the mood in the teaser released in May, the final trailer to IT Chapter 2 was finally set afloat this week, so we got the memo.

What’s IT Chapter 2 about?

Right… So, IT Chapter 2 is set some 27 years after the events of the previous film. As the opening monologue suggests, all of the Losers, except Mike (Isaiah Mustafa) have left Derry. Each has grown up and grown distant. After a series of attacks, Mike realizes that Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård) is back and he calls the Losers to reunite in Derry, so they can keep their oath to defeat IT for good.

It’s a glow up!

The new movie features a new cast as the adult Losers, some flashbacks and new scenes from the kids Losers, as well as a revenging Pennywise. Judging from all the footage and press so far, it delivers on all its promises to the bloodthirsty fans out there – delivering more horror, more book-related material, and a more menacing Pennywise. It also seems to have kept the heart of the story- the Losers Club.

Bill Hader (Richie) teased that their fun time at Jade of the Orient included him getting director orders to recreate ‘Dirty Dancing’

Who’s in IT Chapter 2?

The casting department of IT Chapter 2 has brought together an A+ team, which not only bears a striking resemblance to the kids versions of the Losers but also possesses a series of skills for all things supernatural. According to their filmography resume, that is:

‘The Losers Club’ comeback tour – Book your tickets for Derry NOW

  • The fancast picks – James McAvoy, who has developed something of a taste for the genre with Split and Glass takes on adult Bill Denbrough (Jaeden Martell). Jessica Chastain, a trained scream queen thanks to Muschietti’s Mama plays adult Beverly Marsh (Sophia Lillis). Bill Hader, who likes a drowning clown, takes the torch (and the laughs) as adult Richie Tozier from Finn Wolfhard. Verdict: + 3 fortune cookies

  • The scary resemblance picks: Jay Ryan (a CW veteran) steps as adult Ben Hanscom (Jeremy Ray Taylor). Isaiah Mustafa (one of the badasses in Shadowhunters) will show a more prominent adult Mike Hanlon (Chosen Jacobs). James Ransone (survivor of 2 Sinister movies) is adult Eddie Kaspbrak (Jack Dylan Grazer), with Andy Bean (your Swamp Thing) as adult Stan Uris (Wyatt Olef). Verdict: + 5 balloons

  • The special party surprise: Indie childe Xavier Dolan (with 2 potential/borderline horror entries) is cast as Adrian Mellon. Verdict: + 1 party hat (I ❤ Derry)

Will IT Chapter 2 Be Scarier?

In a recent interview, Andy Muschietti said that the motivation behind splitting the two storylines in the book into two movies was rescuing the dialogue and allowing the characters to evolve in a more organic way. Together with Barbara, they spoke about bringing back a smarter, more manipulative, and unpredictable Pennywise – a special sauce, which allows the exploration of different levels of fear, some of which are rooted in child trauma and others that come with adulthood.

IT Chapter 2 would be R-rated (just like the first part). Judging from all the footage so far it seems that the horror elements will include blood and gore (Jessica Chastain teased filming the most blood-filled scene in a horror movie), as well as suspense sequences – Bev’s meeting with Miss Kersh and Bill’s disturbing encounter with Pennywise in the circus hall of mirrors. Since a lot of people consider the opening of IT 2017 and the projector scene as the best scares, I’d say, there is a fair chance they will all get their due.

IT Chapter 2 is out September 6th. Meanwhile, if you feel tense or stressed out, you can watch this video of Bill Hader (Richie Tozier) and James Ransone (Eddie Kaspbrak) talking about de-stressing from filming ITt Chapter 2, Losers-style! Or you can take another look at this video, which is a fitting tribute to both visions of IT and our Losers.
